Alex Scores Points at Budapest Heading into Summer Break
Alexander Albon finished in 10th position at the Hungarian Grand Prix for Scuderia Toro Rosso, following a brilliant on-track battle with teammate Danil Kvyat - sealing points in the final race before the Formula One Summer Break.
Alex bounced back from a truncated Friday Practice running, which saw rain play a factor in proceedings, alongside a small mistake leading to a crash at Turn 14 early in Friday's FP2 session to restrict his running in the STR14 around the Hungaroring.
The Thai driver nevertheless impressed by out-qualifying teammate Danil Kvyat, after both drivers progressed into Q2 - Alex qualifying in 12th position, one position ahead of Danil.
Alex made a solid start to maintain 12th position in the early stages of the race, shadowing the points paying positions after starting on the Medium tyres. This including an incredible 7 corner, side-by-side battle with Danil as the two STR14's battled for position. Ultimately resulting in Alex conceeding posiiton after a great scrap.
Alex, struggling for grip on the Medium tyres pitted on Lap 28 after a long first stint - fitting the Hard tyre for the rest of the race.
His pace on the harder tyre saw him make strong progress and into the top 10, crossing the line in 10th position to secure another points scoring finish in his maiden season of Formula 1 - heading into the annual summer break on a high note.
Alexander Albon (Car 23):
"I had quite a good race today. My first stint was average, and I didn’t feel very comfortable with the Medium tyres, it felt like I had almost no grip at all, but once I went onto the Hard tyres the car came alive again.
I had two nice fights with Dany, the first one was much closer than the second one! It was good fun and it was fair racing. I think P10 was the best we could achieve today, so we have to be pleased.
Now I’ve got time to relax a bit, review the season so far and understand where I need to improve to be ready for the second half of the year."
Formula One now heads into the annual 'Summer Break', with the next round of the Formula One World Championship taking place at Spa-Francorchamps on the 30th August - 1st September.
