Appendicitis Rules Alex out of Italian Grand Prix
Alex Albon will be forced to miss the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, following being diagnosed with appendicitis after feeling unwell on Saturday morning
Williams Racing can confirm that, after feeling unwell this morning and seeking medical advice from the FIA and local hospital, Alex Albon is now undergoing treatment for appendicitis.
Following on from this, we can confirm that the team’s Reserve Driver Nyck de Vries will drive in place of Alex for the remainder of the Italian Grand Prix weekend. Alex is in good spirits and the team wishes him a speedy recovery.
It is a great shame for Alex, following finishing P11 and P10 across FP1 and FP2 respectively, improving by seventh-tenths between the two to end the day with a personal best time of 1:22.835.
Alex’s full focus is on recovery and preparation ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix later this month.
Alex would like to thank the excellent care and support he has received, including from the nursing, anaesthetic and ICU teams at Osperdale San Gerardo – ASST Monza, the FIA medical team, his Performance Coach Patrick Harding, the Williams Racing team and Dr Luke Bennett from HINTSA Performance.
