Day 2 in Suzuka is officially over, with Alex qualifying in P14 for tomorrow’s race. Let’s recap how Albono got on over the course of the day.
Our Thai driver began the morning with some long running following yesterday’s disrupted sessions. Racking up 23 laps in FP3, Alex ended the session in P11 with a 1:30.533.
Fast forward a few hours and it was time for qualifying. It was another incredibly close Q1, but Alex’s 1:29.963 proved to be just enough to sneak through to the second round in P15.
It was a waiting game in Q2 as Albono stayed in the garage until the final three minutes, before heading out for one fast run on his fresh soft tyres.
Alex did everything to maximise his FW46, and managed to set his best lap time of the two days so far with a 1:29.714. However, Q3 proved to be a stretch too far, with Albono missing out by two tenths to end the day in P14.
There is no doubt Alex will be looking to battle his way up the grid tomorrow, to be in the fight for points. Less than 24 hours til lights out in Japan…
