Alex Albon has claimed F1’s “Best Overtake of the Last 5 Seasons” award after fans voted his incredible double move at the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix as the standout pass.
The award-winning moment saw Alex pull off a breathtaking move on Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon in tricky, drying conditions around Montreal.
Running just outside the points in P11, our No.23 used the slipstream on the run to the final chicane before diving between both cars with millimetre-perfect precision to climb into P9.
The move instantly became one of *the* overtakes of the season, earning Overtake of the Month honours at the time, and now fans have voted it the very best from the past five years of Formula 1 action.
Reacting after receiving the award, Alex said:
“Thank you, everyone! Thank you for voting for me. “To reminisce on that overtake, I went into the braking point thinking I need to outbrake Daniel on my inside. “I braked and I thought yeah I’ve got him... and then I see the closing speed of Esteban in front of me. “He kind of slowly drifts over to the racing line so he’s giving me dirty air during the braking phase, so I’m like I’ve got to come off the brake now and just aim for the gap. “And then I did the overtake. Obviously Esteban gave me some racing room, and then I was so tempted to speak on the radio, but I was like I’ve got to play it cool. “Internally I was like ‘Oh my god, oh my god.’”
