Alex is all set for the eighth round of the 2026 Formula 1 season as the championship heads to Austria and the iconic Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.
Following a challenging weekend in Spain, Alex and Atlassian Williams F1 Team arrive in Austria determined to bounce back and return to the fight for points as the European leg of the season gathers pace.
Red Bull Ring should be a circuit that suits Alex’s driving style, with its fast flowing nature and opportunities to attack under braking. Having delivered mixed performances at the venue over his career, he will be looking to extract the maximum performance out of his FW48.
His thoughts:
“Austria is always a place I enjoy coming to and it is one of the most scenic circuits on the calendar. Red Bull Ring is short on lap time, but it's one of those tracks where every corner matters and getting the details right can make a big difference.”
“The lap is fast, there are some good overtaking opportunities, and the margins are usually incredibly tight throughout the field. It is also looking to be quite hot so getting our tyres in the right window will be key.”
“Barcelona wasn't the easiest weekend to manage, but hopefully we can put together a clean weekend and come away with some strong points for the team.”
The track:
The Red Bull Ring is one of Formula 1’s shortest circuits, at just over 4.3 kilometers with only 10 corners. Despite its simple layout, the steep elevation changes set into the Styrian mountains and the heavy braking zones leave drivers maintaining exceptional precision in order to avoid exceeding track limits.
Previous outings:
Alex’s first outing at the Red Bull Ring was back in July 2013 whilst competing in Formula Renault 2.0. He has since made 19 more appearances at the venue, with 7 of these being in Formula 1. His strongest finish was fourth place at the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix.
