A challenging race saw Alex finish P17 at the United States Grand Prix after battling tyre degradation throughout.
Starting P17 after grid penalties for other drivers, Alex made a strong getaway to climb to P14 on the opening lap. However, Nico Hulkenberg passed him on lap seven, with Fernando Alonso and Gabriel Bortoleto also moving ahead over the following laps.
His tyres became a growing concern, with Alex reporting that his front tyres were struggling through the high-speed corners before later saying they were completely worn. He pitted on lap 16 for a fresh set of softs, rejoining towards the back of the field.
Alex worked his way back up the order as other drivers made their stops, before switching to hard tyres during his second pit stop on lap 32. He climbed to P15 as the race progressed, but Lance Stroll passed him on fresher tyres, followed by Alonso in the closing stages.
A late Virtual Safety Car interrupted the final stint after Valtteri Bottas stopped on track. Alex maintained his position through the remaining laps to take the chequered flag in P17.
“There were small positives to take from today. I got a good start and gained a few places on the first lap. Austin is a track where you can race and overtake, which I enjoyed, and there were a few battles with Fernando which we'll also review.”
“We picked up some damage early on, and our long stint on the hards left us caught up in the blue flags. We're still lacking pace, and there's a lot of work to do. We'll need to find more for Mexico.”
