Five of Alex Albon's most underrated drives for Williams

Not every standout drive ends on the podium - here are five Alex Albon performances that deserve another look.

Throughout his Formula 1 career at Atlassian Williams F1 Team, Alex Albon has delivered a number of standout drives that have flown under the radar.

Whether through relentless tyre management and defensive DRS trains or extracting every last bit of performance from his car, here are five of Alex's underrated Formula 1 drives that deserve another look.

Australia 2022 🇦🇺

After spending a year on the sidelines, Alex returned to the Formula 1 grid in 2022 with Williams. Just three races into his comeback season, he reminded everyone exactly what he is capable of.

After qualifying, the team were unable to provide the FIA with the required one-litre fuel sample from Alex's car, resulting in a disqualification from the session and leaving him to start from the back of the grid.

Starting on the hard compound, he completed an incredible 57 laps on the same set of tyres before pitting on the final lap of the race.

The alternate strategy vaulted him into the points, with Alex crossing the line in P10 to score Williams' first point of the season. It was a performance built on patience, tyre management and flawless execution.

Canada 2023 🇨🇦

By the middle of 2023, Williams had begun to unlock the potential of the FW45, and Alex was making the most of every opportunity.

After qualifying strongly in Montréal, he delivered a composed race, finishing in P7 and holding off quicker cars behind while managing his tyres across a demanding Grand Prix. Every lap required precision as rivals searched for a way past, but Alex rarely put a wheel out of place.

The result marked one of Williams' best finishes of the season and demonstrated just how much confidence Alex had built with the team.

Monza 2023 🇮🇹

Alex arrived in Monza and qualified P6 before producing another successful drive on race day, managing tyre degradation while keeping several faster cars at bay throughout the afternoon. His defensive driving and race management were crucial in securing another P7 against better performing teams.

While much of the conversation centred around Williams' straight-line speed, Alex's ability to maximise every opportunity behind the wheel was equally as impressive.

Azerbaijan 2024 🇦🇿

Street circuits reward precision, and Alex delivered exactly that around the walls of Baku. Starting on the hard tyre, he extended his opening stint which allowed the team to capitalise as the race unfolded. During the pit stop cycle he even ran inside the top three before settling into the fight for points.

Crossing the line in P7, Alex once again demonstrated his ability to combine tyre management and strategic awareness to extract the maximum from the car. Although the weekend was remembered by many for Williams' overall success, Alex's drive was another example of his talent and delivering results when opportunities present themselves.

Imola 2025 🇮🇹

Williams arrived at Imola with growing momentum, and Alex delivered one of his most complete performances of the 2025 season to secure a superb P5 finish.

Starting P7 on the grid, Alex climbed into the fight at the front thanks to a well-executed strategy and strong race pace, running as high as P2 during the pit stop cycle. Even after a late Safety Car reshuffled the order, he remained firmly in contention and crossed the line in P5, equalling his best result with the team.

Although the race was overshadowed by the battle at the front, Imola showcased Alex at his very best. Combining confident overtaking, intelligent tyre management and consistent pace, he extracted everything from the FW47 and demonstrated just how far both he and Williams had progressed in their fight towards the front of the midfield.
