The Mexico City Grand Prix brought plenty of drama, with Alex making up six places on a restart before finishing the race in P14.
Starting P16 after a qualifying disqualification for Liam Lawson, Alex got away cleanly and made up a place on the opening lap. He settled into the race behind Sergio Pérez, keeping within a second of the home favourite as the opening laps unfolded.
An early Virtual Safety Car was deployed on lap seven after Lance Stroll stopped on track, with racing resuming shortly afterwards. Alex continued to chase Pérez before making his first pit stop on lap 20, switching to a fresh set of soft tyres and rejoining at the back of the field in P20.
Alex began working his way back through the order, passing Valtteri Bottas on lap 23 before gaining further positions as other drivers made their stops. He climbed to P16 by lap 41 and came in again on lap 41 for a set of medium tyres, which the team hoped would provide a more consistent stint.
The race was then interrupted by a Safety Car on lap 45 after a crash for Valtteri Bottas at Turn 1, who thankfully was okay. A red flag followed, bringing the field back to the pit lane. When the race eventually resumed, Alex made an excellent restart, gaining six places to climb into P13.
He continued to defend his position through the closing stages, holding off Sergio Pérez behind while keeping an eye on the cars ahead. A second Safety Car was deployed on lap 59 following a crash for Arvid Linblad at Turn 2, bunching the field up once again.
Racing resumed on lap 63, but Alex lost a place to Isack Hadjar and dropped to P13. He remained under pressure from rookie Ryo Hirakawa, who eventually made his move on the main straight on lap 70. Alex crossed the line in P14 to bring a challenging but eventful Mexico City Grand Prix to a close.
Following a post race penalty for Oscar Piastri, Alex moves up into P13!
“It was a solid race for us. We went for the two-stop, which may have been the wrong call due to the lack of tyre deg, but the red flag brought us all back into it. I had a really good restart and gained quite a few positions, which I tried to hold onto, but eventually Isack and Ryō overtook me. The pace was decent, all things considered, and the car felt pretty good, so overall I’m quite happy with the weekend.”
“Lastly, congratulations to Kimi. He’s driven really impressively for someone so young, and he’s been very relaxed throughout it all. To be so young and to be able to achieve what he's achieved, I have a lot of respect for him. He’s clearly made a big step from last year and he’s a new force to be reckoned with.”
