Alex away from the track
How does an F1 driver spend their time when they’re not at a race weekend?

Formula 1 may take Alex Albon all over the world, but life away from the circuit is just as busy. Whether he’s back at the factory, finding time for sport, or enjoying a rare break between races, Alex is always on the move.
Here’s what AA23 has been up to recently when the helmet comes off.
At the factory
A Formula 1 season doesn’t stop when the chequered flag falls, and neither does Alex. Between race weekends, plenty of time is spent back at Grove with Atlassian Williams F1 Team, working with engineers, spending time in the simulator and helping push development forward for the season ahead.
Factory days can involve everything from long DIL (driver-in-loop) simulator sessions and technical briefings, to filming the content you lvoer and meeting team members across the organisation.
It’s a key part of modern F1 life to stay connected with the people building the car and understanding exactly where improvements can be made.
On the course
Like a lot of drivers, Alex uses golf as a way to switch off from the intensity of racing – although the competitive side never disappears completely.
Whether it’s a casual round with friends or time spent working on his game during a break in the calendar, golf has become one of Alex’s favourite ways to relax away from the paddock.
Naturally, with Lily Muni He as his guide his game has no doubt improved, but whether Alex is as good a student as she is a teacher… we’ll leave that up for debate!
It’s also one of the few sports where precision, rhythm and focus translate surprisingly well from the cockpit to the fairway.
And, naturally, there’s always healthy competition involved whenever other drivers are around.
On the water
The Formula 1 calendar moves fast, which makes downtime even more important during the season. When there’s a chance to recharge, Alex is more than happy to trade the paddock for the open water.
Recent breaks have seen him enjoying boat trips and time by the sea, making the most of rare opportunities to properly disconnect before another run of races begins. With so much travel already built into the F1 lifestyle, finding a quieter pace for a few days can make all the difference.
In the stands
Drivers spend their lives competing in front of crowds, but Alex is a sports fan too.
During a recent break in the schedule, he was spotted at the Monte Carlo Masters, taking in the action courtside alongside plenty of familiar faces from the motorsport world. Tennis has become a popular crossover sport within the paddock, with many drivers following the biggest tournaments whenever the calendar allows.
On a smaller track
Even in the middle of a full season of Formula 1, drivers still love karting.
Alex recently hit the track for some karting fun alongside fellow F1 drivers Oscar Piastri and Gabriel Bortoleto, proving that racing drivers never really switch off. Karting remains the foundation of every driver’s career, and for many on the grid it’s still one of the purest forms of racing there is.
