Alex will be looking to bring the curtain down on his European triple-header in style, by putting in a memorable performance at the Spanish GP.
It has been an intense period for Albono, with back-to-back races weekends in Emilia Romagna and Monaco — followed by the upcoming visit to Barcelona.
But AA23 can be pleased with 12 points across his previous two outings, having placed P5 at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari and P9 last Sunday.
Here’s everything you need to know about his Round 8 trip to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya…
Previous stints in Spain
Alex narrowly missed out on securing points during his first-ever F1 visit to Catalonia, when he finished P11 while racing for Toro Rosso in 2019.
He did get off the mark the following year, though — placing P8 after switching teams to Red Bull Racing.
Things haven’t gone quite as smoothly since joining Atlassian Williams Racing, though, so Albono will undoubtedly be hoping to claim his first points in Spain with the British outfit.
Having placed inside the top ten in seven of his eight races this year — and scored points in four consecutive Grands Prix — there is no reason to think that Alex can’t add to his total when he heads to Montmeló.
Track guide
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is a familiar venue for motorsport fans and drivers alike, having been a mainstay on the F1 calendar since 1991.
With various corner types, straights and elevation changes, it will present Alex and the FW47 with a multitude of challenges — putting the car’s aerodynamic efficiency and mechanical grip to the test.
A lap of 4.657 km (2.894 miles) features 14 turns and kicks off with heavy braking heading into Turn 1, prior to an uphill climb at Turn 3.
Sector 2 sees plenty of twists and turns before a good opportunity to overtake at Turn 10 — and ahead of the high-speed right-hand corners of Sector 3, leading into the long pit straight to finish.
Alex’s thoughts
"Barcelona is a track we all know incredibly well, having done so many laps here from our junior days," said Alex, when looking ahead to the weekend.
"It's a circuit that really tests the car with its mix of both high and low-speed corners.
"We’ve scored points in each race of the triple-header so far, so we’re keen to put in a solid performance here to round off this first European stint of the season."
Stay in the loop
This weekend’s Spanish GP will be the final race on a European time zone until late next month, with a visit to Canada (13th-15th June) preceding the Austrian GP on 27th-29th June.
As always, the best place to stay up to date with Alex’s progress is on the AA23 website and app, where our live blog will cover all the goings on in Barcelona.
AA23 won’t be taking part in Free Practice 1 on this occasion, with Atlassian Williams Racing academy driver Victor Martins doing so instead.
But he’ll be behind the wheel for FP2 at 5pm local time (CEST) on Friday, then for FP3 (12.30pm) and Qualifying (4pm) on Saturday. The race itself commences at 3pm CEST on Sunday afternoon.
