Alex will have fond memories of his previous visits to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Our Thai racer picked up his first points in Mexico all the way back in 2019, when he finished P5 during his maiden season with Red Bull Racing.
And Albono enjoyed another weekend to remember in the Mexican capital last year — placing P9 while driving for Williams.
That result was all the more impressive considering he started 14th on the grid, after a frustrating Quali saw his best lap deleted by the stewards.
Starting on hard tyres, Alex passed Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu, before pitting when a Safety Car was brought out following Kevin Magnussen’s heavy crash at Turn 9 on Lap 33.
He returned to the track in P12, only for a Red Flag to halt proceedings.
The race then resumed from a standing start on Lap 36, with AA23 able to climb up to P9 — a position he held on to comfortably until the chequered flag.
That result represented a commendable day’s work for Albono, who was understandably delighted with the outcome.
“It was a great race, which surprised me, as we didn’t have that much race pace,” he revealed after the Grand Prix.
“The track was a little bit too hot for us, so required a lot of tyre management, which I expected.
“We had very good starts where we gained some good positions and also had a good strategy, but the red flag ruined that a little bit, so we had to reset before the restart.
“We made up the places lost during the Safety Car and I think, regardless of Qualifying yesterday, P9 was the best result we could’ve done today, so I’m happy.”
Alex will surely be hoping to draw inspiration from last year’s Mexican Grand Prix when he takes to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez again this Sunday.
