Starting P9 following a grid penalty for Charles Leclerc, Alex made an excellent getaway to climb into P7 on the opening lap. He held his position through the early stages, running inside the top 10 as the field navigated the wet conditions on intermediate tyres.
As the track began to dry, the first drivers switched to slick tyres, with Alex remaining out a little longer before pitting on lap 16 for softs. He rejoined in P12 and quickly worked his way back up the order, climbing as high as P9 on lap 19.
However, the competition began to close in, and Alex gradually dropped back as drivers made their way past. He also reported difficulties turning into Turn 1, before running wide at the corner on lap 34 and losing a position to Fernando Alonso.
A further setback came on lap 42 when Alex received a five second penalty for an unsafe rejoin while defending his position. He served the penalty during his next pit stop, switching to a fresh set of soft tyres and rejoining in P16.
Alex continued to make progress as other drivers pitted, moving back into P14 before the weather began to change once again. With rain starting to fall, the team brought him in on lap 61 for intermediate tyres, with Alex rejoining in P15.
As the rest of the field also switched to inters, Alex briefly climbed to P14 before dropping back one position in the closing stages. He crossed the line in P15 to bring a challenging, rain affected São Paulo Grand Prix to a close.
