It wasn’t one for the ages, but Alex Albon secured another top-10 finish at the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, with a P9 result taking his season tally to 42 points.
Starting from P10, our No. 23 got away cleanly, steering clear of trouble and holding position. A Virtual Safety Car was deployed early on to allow for the clean-up of debris after Gabriel Bortoleto found the barriers at Portier.
Full racing conditions resumed on lap 4, with several drivers behind Alex opting to make the first of their two mandatory stops under the VSC. Yellow flags were out again on lap 9 after Pierre Gasly lost his brakes heading into the Nouvelle Chicane, colliding with Yuki Tsunoda and ending Alpine’s race prematurely.
That section of the track remained under yellows for the next three laps before we resumed racing – though “racing” was doing a bit of heavy lifting. Liam Lawson ahead began to open a gap, creating room for his Racing Bulls teammate, Isack Hadjar, to complete both mandatory stops while staying ahead of the chasing pack.

Hadjar made his second stop by lap 20, freeing Alex to push once more. Nine laps later, he climbed to P9 – though only because Esteban Ocon had boxed for his second tyre change.
With Carlos Sainz backing up the pack behind, Alex made his first stop on lap 32 and his second on lap 40 – but the game changed between those two visits. Fernando Alonso had retired, meaning Atlassian Williams Racing now occupied the final two points-paying positions.
After Alex’s second stop, roles were reversed as Carlos was let through to build a gap for his two stops. Growing increasingly frustrated behind Albono, George Russell made the bold call to simply cut the Nouvelle Chicane to overtake, willing to take the hit of a time penalty. The stewards were unimpressed, handing the Mercedes driver a drive-through penalty instead.
With Carlos in P9 and Alex in P11, all that was left was for Russell to make his first mandatory (non-penalty) stop – which he did on lap 66 of 78 – allowing the two Williams to switch places once again.
After a strong team effort, Alex just had to bring it home to record his second consecutive P9 finish in Monaco. He was managing an issue in the closing stages, which made things trickier, but by the final laps, any concerns had faded. After describing it as an “ugly race” over the radio, he sealed another points finish at the flag.
"Today isn’t how either Carlos or I want to go racing; it’s not pretty but, in the end, it was a tactical game, and we had to make it work," Alex shared post-race.
"The Racing Bulls did it first, and we knew if they started it, we had to match it. Realistically we lost the race on Saturday, and you pay the price here; you start where you finish and that was it.
"The weekend was a bit disappointing as it feels like we didn’t maximise what we could have, but we’ve still come away with three good points for the team and we’ll just keep chipping away at it."
