Alex can take inspiration from his last visit to Monza when he heads to Lombardy this weekend.
Albono enjoyed a race to remember at the 2023 Italian Grand Prix — matching his season-best performance to claim a P7 finish and six points for Williams.
An impressive Quali saw AA23 start sixth on the grid, before battling with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in the afternoon’s opening exchanges.
But an early pit stop meant Alex had to drive on a set of hard tyres for 35 laps at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.
Though Lewis Hamilton was able to pass Albono during the closing laps, it was nonetheless an impressive display from our Thai racer, as he held off challenger Lando Norris to cross the line in seventh place.
Alex was understandably delighted with the result.
“That was probably my toughest but my most proud race I’ve done,” he said, before adding: “I’m very happy. I’m sure Lando didn’t enjoy that one too much, but I did!
“We went into today knowing it was going to be a tough, long race and we knew tyre deg would be high.
“I think on paper we went into this weekend expecting to be a little bit quicker than we were and four laps into the race I knew it would be long, but we managed to keep everyone behind.”
Having previously placed P6 at the ‘Temple of Speed’ with Red Bull Racing in 2019, the Italian Grand Prix is clearly a race that Alex enjoys.
He will be hoping to create more positive memories of Monza on Sunday.
