We’re closing in on the 2025 campaign — and there is plenty of excitement about Alex’s prospects in the year ahead.
Our Thai racer is part of a brand-new driver line-up at Atlassian Williams Racing alongside Carlos Sainz, with the duo set to drive the team’s hotly-anticipated FW47.
On the eve of pre-season testing, here’s everything you need to know about what lies in store for Albono over the coming months.
First learnings
Alex will get his first proper taste of Williams’ FW47 at pre-season testing this week, having taken it for a brief spin during the car’s launch event at Silverstone.
All ten teams and 20 drivers will descend on the Bahrain International Circuit from 26th-28th February, to put their respective vehicles through their paces.
Albono and the Williams team will use those three days to test everything from tyre performance to the car’s reliability, while fine-tuning AA23’s setup ahead of Round 1 in Melbourne.
Heading down under
The season finally gets under way in mid-March — and it’s all change when it comes to the campaign’s opening race.
Australia is hosting the curtain-raiser for the first time since 2019 (14th-16th March), following four consecutive visits to Bahrain in Round 1.
Alex will have fond memories of his top-ten finish at the Albert Park Circuit in 2022, when he secured his first-ever point for Williams.
And he’ll want to make amends for his last visit to Melbourne, having just missed out on the points with a P11 placing in 2024.
Potential highlights
With a total of 24 races across the season, there’s plenty for Albono’s fans to look forward to.
Williams’ home race at Silverstone (4th-6th July) catches the eye, of course, as does an October visit to Southeast Asia for the Singapore Grand Prix (3rd-5th October).
There are also three trips stateside, to Miami (2nd-4th May), Austin (17th-19th October) and Las Vegas (20th-22nd November), with the latter taking place against the iconic backdrop of the Las Vegas Strip.
A host of classic tracks remain on the calendar, too, with visits to Imola (16th-18th May) and Monaco (23rd-25th May) on consecutive weekends.
Alex enjoyed his time at both of those venues last season, claiming P9 finishes in Italy and at the Circuit de Monaco.
Talking of last season’s successes, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is scheduled for 19th-21st September, when AA23 will be trying to better his P7 placing in 2024.
What has Alex said?
Alex looked ahead to the 2025 season when speaking to ‘The Fast and the Curious’ podcast earlier this month.
Discussing Williams’ new FW47, he said:
“The skin of the car looks similar but the skeleton’s different — just subtle things, packaging things, a lot of refinements.
“There aren’t many parts of this car that have been carried over from last year so it’s all been optimised, let’s say.”
Albono then discussed spoke about the team’s aspirations for the coming year, saying:
“It’s more about just maximising this year — realistically it’s [a case of] putting the foundations in place.
“We’ve done a lot of work back at the factory changing procedures, it’s been documented a million times, making everything mainstream and current and modern.
A lot of the top teams, even if they don’t start the year strong, they always bounce back. So you need the pyramid to be built from the very bottom.”
He later added: “Honestly I think that if we can finish this season and feel that we’ve really got on top of a lot of the issues that we had last year — so you know, the parts, the overweights side of thing, the quality control areas — there’s a few big things that we’ve really put a lot of effort into this year.
“That to me is what a good year is.”
