Alex will be looking to get his campaign back on track in Austria, after being unable to finish consecutive Grands Prix.
Our Thai racer endured frustrating weekends in Barcelona and Montreal — sustaining damage at the Spanish GP, before being hampered by power unit problems last time out.
He can still reflect on a highly successful season so far, however, after registering seven top-10 finishes in his first eight races.
Albono can therefore be confident of recapturing that form once again, starting with his upcoming trip to the Red Bull Ring.
Previous visits to Austria
Alex enjoyed a memorable stint in Spielberg back in July 2020, when he placed fourth there with Red Bull Racing.
He’s come close to points with Williams on two occasions, too — in 2022 (P12) and 2023 (P11).
The latter of those visits saw AA23 miss out by a particularly narrow margin, but Alex spoke positively after that race.
“I’m not disappointed about the race today,” he said. “I think it’s a normal thing with the top four teams and top eight cars in those positions, so there’s only two points up for grabs.
“Lando [Norris] had a great race, as did Pierre [Gasly], so that was the remaining points and we were the next best.
“It was a strong weekend for us, our worst result was 13th where we were running P7 for most of it. When you think of it like that, it’s frustrating but it shows we’re making steps forward.”
And though last season’s visit only resulted in a P15 finish for Albono, he’ll be hoping to deliver that progress in the FW47 this weekend.
Track guide
Short laps and high speeds are the order of the day in Spielberg, at one of Formula 1’s most entertaining venues.
Set against a stunning backdrop of the Styrian mountains, the Red Bull Ring is just 4.318 km (2.683 miles) in length — and only features 10 turns.
But what it lacks in distance it makes up for in excitement, with a thrilling concoction of fast straights, tight corners and elevation changes.
Turns 1 and 3 offer excellent opportunities to overtake with their uphill braking zones, while a drop in speed is required as drivers head downhill into Turn 4.
Cars typically follow each other in single file for the track’s training corners, before doing it all again across 71 laps of action.
Alex’s thoughts
“I'm excited to get back into the European leg of the season at a track that should suit the FW47 well,” Alex said, when looking ahead to the Austrian GP.
“We've brought some good learnings from recent races and the team is working well together, which will hopefully help us this weekend.
“Our focus is to get back to a good run of form with some strong points in Austria.”
