Update from Atlassian Williams F1 Team on Alex's FW48
“Following the incident in FP1 involving wildlife on track, Alex will not run in this afternoon’s Sprint qualifying session.
“Despite the best efforts of the team to repair the car, the damage sustained was far more extensive than originally thought, requiring the gearbox and PU to be replaced. It’s unlucky for Alex, but we’ll look to take all the learnings from Carlos’ side of the garage to be as prepared as possible for tomorrow’s sessions.”

Replay Rewind ⏪
Checking the replay and it seems that Alex sadly hit a groundhog to cause the crash.
His radio line about his unluckiness makes a lot of sense. There was not anything Alex could’ve done to avoid contact.

ALEX and PIT
ALEX: When I say I have low confidence, I mean I have zero confidence.
PIT: In the drivability?
ALEX: Yes. When I brake, the brakes aren’t stopping. It’s just there’s no bite.

Virtual Safety Car 🟡
Alex set a 1:18.014 for P8 as LAW pulls over to the side of the road to trigger a VSC.
With such little practice time available, that’s unideal, but Alex is in comms over the radio to give feedback on the car’s performance.

Time on the Board ✅

He’s 15s of the pace on his second lap as he warms up for a proper push.
