What an opening race of the season!! Alex takes P4!

Alex is promoted to 4th after Kimi receives a penalty. P4 in the first race of the season!! What a race!!

Kimi gets Alex through the Turn 9/10 chicane, but the stewards announce he is under investigation for an unsafe release. Alex is P5 on the track on the final lap!

Lawson loses it at Turn 2, just as Bortoleto loses it at 13. Safety Car is out. Alex is P7 once again but there are so many different strategies ahead of him. The rain is forecast to clear before the end of this race. So much could still happen. Lap 48/57.

Alex joins Yuki, Lewis and Fernando under investigation for infringements under the Safety Car. He remains P7. Lap 20/57.

So we'll do several laps under the Safety Car here as two cars are cleared from the track – Carlos is stricken out of the final turn and will take no further part.

Alex gets away well but cannot stop Leclerc getting past him. Doohan has crashed out of Turn 5 and brings out the Safety Car. Alex P7.

A second formation lap gets underway. Alex on the inters – as is everyone else.

The start has been delayed til 15:15 local time while the stricken car is cleared.

Hadjar loses it at Turn 2 on the Formation Lap – this will be an aborted start.

It's the green-walled tyres for everyone except Stroll.

"It was unbelievably slippery [on the installation laps]. "I need to see what we want to start on. An Inter tyre or a Wet. "It's tricky, yeah."

We've had torrential weather in Melbourne this morning. The track is drying up – but which tyres will we start on?

It was a superb Qualifying session from Alex yesterday. Can he back it up on Grand Prix Sunday?

We're back for Day 2 and ready for FP3 in 15 minutes
